An Aussie Themed Getaway

Checking the weather north of Brunswick got us thinking maybe a jaunt further south would be needed to ensure a "no snow" trip north. Denise located a nice park only 30 minutes south of Brunswick in Woodbine GA. - Walkabout RV Park.

Easy in and out, right off I-95, and gas just outside the park and down the road. Ten to fifteen minutes from Kingsland - depending on traffic. Kingsland is big enough for nearly any "chain" store/restaurant you can imagine and small enough to easy to get around.

Our site was across the street from the parks petting zoo. Brutus the miniature bull was fun to watch. He was like a 350 pound dog bouncing all over the pen. Goats, pigs, chickens, and a pony round out the others. We took the dogs to visit the goats, Biscuits was not at all interested but Gravy, he just couldn't figure out those goofy looking dogs.

They have nature trails all over the parks property, I'd guess more than five miles in all. They are wide enough to easily get your golf cart down and they don't mind if you do. If only we had a golf cart {sigh}. We decided to venture out and hiked down one. The next day Denise had poison ivy. I swear, she can get that stuff in a Walmart parking lot. Being the strong women she is and with the help of a steroid regiment, she is getting better.

We mostly stayed around the RV and relaxed but did manage to tour "old" Saint Mary's. Visited "Once Upon a Bookseller" to get more reading material. Nice little shoppe. We didn't eat out much this stay. We did go to a seafood store to get some "grilling" food. Picked up haddock, hockey puck size scallops, clams, mussels, shrimp, and a local favorite - boudin sausage. Needless to say the grill was full.

Boudin sausage - couple of things, it is stuffed with rice and pork. I would prefer they left out the rice. I would eat it again, if offered but I would probably not purchase it again. Kind of bland and rice kept it from getting firm so it stayed a bit mushy.

The park itself was clean and well kept. Sites were adequately sized and level. There were a few communal fire pits around the park and they provided the wood. We saw lots of people using them. They have a club house and had several things scheduled while we were there - corn-hole tournament, crab boil, volley ball.

    Our Takeaway

We stayed for week and we would do it again for even longer. Everything we needed was close by and the park was quiet and clean. The only real downsides were its proximity to I-95, you could hear traffic all the time, the recycle plant across the street gave off an odor which wafted through the park most days, and of course, the poison ivy issue. The noise soon enough became "white noise" and smell was not horrible, just wish it wasn't there and if you stay off the trails.
