Getting out of the snow!

The trip got off to a good start, bigger rig, and plenty of underwear and summer clothing. We had a "first birthday" to attend, so we decided to leave the bus downstate to avoid a "just our luck" snow storm. We left Mancelona a week early and set up Cramalot in Davison Mi. Our plan was to drive up to Petoskey for baby Jack's birthday party and then back to Davison to head south the following morning.

Everything went as planed and we were on our way at about 0800 to the first overnighter in Lebanon Ohio. The trip took about five hours and no issues.

Our next stop was Bowling Green Kentucky. Another overnighter at the KOA. We really liked this resort, clean and people were friendly. Not a lot to say about a place when you're only there for an afternoon and you spend most of that trying to recover from road. Again, no issues.

We're heading to Greensport Alabama in the morning. We had a beautiful trip... mostly. The GPS that is supposed to adjust the mapping to account for our motorhomes height, weight, and length. Well I don't know where the GPS got the idea that we could drive down very narrow mountain roads where the only thing between you and the bottom of a cliff is a painted white line, but it did. Needless to say we were both wrecks by the time we made it. Thank God we would be here for a week.

The sight was awesome. It sat right on the river and being on the end of a row made for some nice sunsets. It was a bit out of the way in terms of restaurants and shopping but not too bad.

One thing to note - Greensport is not very far south in terms of temperature. Two days into the week and water line froze. Everything inside the coach was fine {whew}. I removed the hose from the spicket and when it finally thawed enough to let water through... it did. I happened to notice the neighbor lady outside with the look of horror on her face. Not wanting to miss out on something good, I looked too. To my surprise, the water was shooting into the air and had already flooded half our site. I tried to shut it of but couldn't turn the knob. Denise called the office and they said someone would be right down. Another thing to note - Greensport is far enough south that the phrase "right down" may not even be the same day. An hour later he showed up with a tool to shut off the water and yes there was extensive flooding. Now we keep a pretty close watch at what the weather will be.

Local Restaurants

Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant was recommended and turned out to be an awesome experience. The food and service was excellent - sorry, no pictures (can you believe that). Except for the occasional chain, we really didn't eat out much.

Thinking back on it, we really didn't do much in Greensport. It was a bit chilly (low 40's) and we wandered around the part and sat inside and talked a lot. Our next stop is Wolf River Resort. We are hooking up with Dan and he'll be spending some time with us.

    Our Takeaway

I would definitely stay here again but not in January, still a bit cold. I also would like to see more of the area, we didn't.
