Changed our RV Life

This one is a game changer for us. As you know from other posts we have two Australian Shepherds (mini version) that travel with us. Keeping them contained at the resorts can be challenging at times. Tie-outs are not practical when there are obstacles in the way. Picnic tables, chairs, water dishes, etc. all seem to be right where the dogs want to be - enter the kennel.

Kenneling was not new to us, we had purchased one of the small folding models a few years back - not worth the trouble. Our dogs could easily knock it over and there just wasn't enough space for them to comfortably move around. In my experience, unless you have a little breed - don't waste your time.

During installation we needed a way to keep the dogs from escaping under the RV, it's wide open. We decided to put the old kennel to use by unclipping some of the panels and adding pipe insulation (pool tubes) to keep them from scratching the RV. I trimmed one down to fit under the steps and BOOM! (Yet another Madden quote). The dogs are free to wander but as with most things, they have limits.

NOTE: When your building the "under step" section remember that motorhome steps retract if the ignition is on and a door opens - be sure to give yourself some room for the step to function.

One thing we noticed during setup is making sharp right angles as apposed to neo angles adds even more stability.

The FXW Dog Kennel was under $200 on Amazon, comes with 16 panels, and the stakes to secure it to the ground, and it is 32 in. tall so the dogs can't jump out. The stakes provide very good stability and can be used free standing if you have a cement or freakishly hard ground in your patio area. Our first time out with it was mix and it changed the way we used the patio. They do make rubber tips for the stakes when using "free standing".

The Take Away

As I said before, this is a game changer. The dogs are happier and I don't have to keep untangling them so I'm happier. I would recommend two things:
1. Get the 16 panel version if you have medium size dogs.
2. Make sure you have room to store it in your RV.
